The Basic Site
The basic site is much more than the name indicates! It's not an unsophisticated rendition of an idea - it's the sophisticated BASELINE for what constitutes a real, extendable, and standardized web site - it's the Renegade Basic Site. It is built with care, using foreward-looking technology, like adherance to W3C web standards (xHTML Strict or HTML5), industry-preferrable layout techniques, and graceful degradation (explained below).
Combine that with the matching artwork, and it makes for a low-cost, great-looking tight package (and extendable starter package) with fast delivery. And, once the basic site is built, it's also extendable in every single way.
I build sites from scratch, writing all of the code by hand, addressing every problem head-on and delivering superior results over what a "site-builder" or WYSIWYG editor or "web design" novice can even begin to even start to provide. Furthermore, project-specific customizations (like galleries and content management) can be integrated seamlessly into the existing architechure. The web is changing SO rapidly that users of sites, as well as site-owners, are demanding more than ever of technology, and that's the target goal of every site that Renegade builds - to build a flexible, ultra-modern, and great-looking site - delivered.
-
Graceful Degradation: The basic site can detect (99% of the time) or allow fallbacks for the user's paradigm for browsing your site (browser type, phone, platform, etc).
For instance, if they are coming from iPhone with Safari or Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7, the site will be smart enough to deliver the content right for the user from where they're browsing. Additionally, if the user has certain features disabled (like JavaScript or Flash), or comes to the site with a dinosaur-era browser, the site will adjust accordingly, delivering the best content for the situation. For example, right now, it's probable that you are using Unknown version Unknown on a Unknown machine.
-
Basic Content Management: You will be able to update all text content and certain graphical features of your site via your own secure interface without having to call in the tech guy each time. The content management aspect of the site is designed to be simple and direct, without all of the huge number of confusing settings that a general-purpose, pre-built CMS gives you - simple and direct, customized for your needs.
-
Art Design: During our initial meetings, I will pay much attention to the look and feel you imagine for your site.
Do you want to go bright and punchy, dark and mysterious, corporate-style, in-the-clouds, new-age-experimental, sci-fi? I can handle it. I'll design the graphics, and we'll make changes accordingly. Then, after we decide on something great, I'll strip everything down into their respective web components and build the interactive browser version.
-
Add-ons: As you may already know, there are many, many things that modern browsers are capable of -
photo galleries, music players, video players, tabbed panels, animated interfaces, Flash apps, Facebook apps, Google maps, and so much more... With the basic site package, the site itself doesn't have to stay basic, in the end. Once we get the initial basic site built, we can freely add on to it as you like. We can even integrate the add-ons into the content-management, for instance making it to where you can change the animated gallery photos yourself, modify your video playlist yourself, or change your site's design by a click from the set of designs that we have pre-defined. There are Sooooo many options, but it's important that we get the basic site defined and built first.
